A World in Fragments
Upplýsingar
A World in Fragments contains proceedings of an inter national conference that the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies, Reykjavík, the Centre for Medieval Literature at the Universities of Southern Denmark and York, and the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Iceland held in 2016 on the medieval Icelandic encyclopedic manuscript GKS 1812 4to. In this volume, specialists from different aca demic fields present studies of various aspects of the manu script from a wide range of angles. Some chapters address
the manuscript from the point of view of its codicology, paleography, and literary history; other chapters are dedicated to exploring texts on computus, astronomy, and mathematics that are preserved in it, along with its world maps, and material concerned with medieval geography and science. The aim of the volume is to present an ‘encyclopedic’ view of GKS 1812 4to and to encourage further study of this fascinating manu script and its contents.
